Jinsixia National Forest Reserve in China
In China, we work with a group of people who harvest goji berries, walnuts and other traditional Chinese herbs, berries and fungus from a wild mountain in a remote region (see map below). This area is part of the Jinsixia National Forest Reserve, which is famous for its pristine forest and abundance of Chinese traditional herbs, berries, fungus and nuts. This area is quite unique unlike the majority of goji berries coming from Ningxia, which are cultivated, these berries are harvested from a mountain reserve, where they grow wild, encompassing approximately 10,000 hectares of land.

Due to the remoteness of the area and the fact that the berries are wildcrafted, it means that they are of the highest quality. The area is certified organic by an internationally renowned European organic certification agency, which also verifies that the wildharvesting is done in a sustainable way. The berries are then dried and processed at a small facility at the base of the mountain, providing a sustainable source of income for the local indigenous population.
